In Miami the county permits the hauler and takes a share of revenue

Local haulers do the work; we hold the contract, own the problems, and send one bill. Miami-Dade County requires a permit to haul solid waste over any public street, and haulers in its disposal fee area report revenue to the county every month.

A county permit behind every truck

In Miami the county licenses the hauler and the city permits the curb. We hold your sites on one account and answer for both. When a pickup gets missed, we contact the hauler the same business day.

Miami work runs on two layers of paperwork. The county hauler permit covers the truck on public streets, and the city right-of-way permit covers the spot where the container sits if it closes a sidewalk, swale, parking lane or traffic lane. Apply for the city permit before you lock in a delivery date, since the city gives itself several business days to issue it. During storm season, ask how a hauler handles pulls ahead of a named storm, because a full container left on a street becomes a problem for everyone nearby.

Use the hauler you already trust if you have one site and it holds the county permit. The hauler, broker, and provider network page shows where we fit, and the Florida page has state rules.

Figures are counts of completed deliveries, providers, and accounts in this window from our records, as of October 2026. Roll-off deliveries are containers delivered. Portable toilet deliveries are units placed, not orders. A company that completed both services is counted in both service rows, so those rows are not a split of the provider total. The counts are not a promise that every address is covered. Front-load service, compactors, and balers are not in these counts. The sanitation figure adds portable toilets and hand-wash units placed. Where a restroom-trailer count is shown, it is units placed.

The Miami-Dade General Hauler Permit

The county's solid waste department issues the General Hauler Permit, and the page says a permit is required for anyone removing, collecting, or transporting solid waste or recyclable material over public streets or rights-of-way in the county's unincorporated, incorporated, and annexed areas. Applicants carry general liability and vehicle liability insurance, and company information has to be permanently affixed to vehicles and trailers. The page lists application, vehicle, and background-check fees without a year, so we haven't put dollar figures on this page. A hauler in the Disposal Facility Fee Area reports its prior month's receipts by the 25th and pays the county 15 percent of gross monthly revenue from accounts there.

Closing a Miami sidewalk, swale, or lane

The City of Miami's Public Works page says a right-of-way permit is needed anytime you close or obstruct any portion of the right-of-way, naming sidewalk, swale, parking lane, and traffic lane. It's issued within five business days of the application and valid for a month. Metered parking lane closures are assessed by the Miami Parking Authority by the number of meters or spaces affected. The page is on the city's archived site and doesn't name dumpsters, so ask Public Works whether a container on a swale counts before you schedule delivery.
