Page 1: the fee table
Provider and job details, then nine fees and terms, each with the question to ask and a column for each quote.

Two dumpster quotes can look alike and end up far apart once the job runs a little long or a little heavy. The difference is in the fee lines: what the base price includes, what happens over the weight, what an extra day costs and who pays when the driver cannot reach the box. Use this page and the free quote checklist to read every quote the same way.
The fee list
Not every provider charges every fee, and none of them is automatically a bad sign. What matters is that you know which ones apply before you book. For how weight and per ton charges work, read our commercial dumpster cost guide.
| Fee or term | What it is | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Base rental | The price for the box, delivery, pickup, a set number of days and disposal up to a stated weight | What is included: days, haul, disposal and weight? |
| Included weight and overage | A weight allowance, then a per ton charge for anything over | How many tons, per haul, and how is the weight measured? |
| Rental days and extension | Included days, then a daily or weekly charge after | What is the charge per extra day, and how do I give notice? |
| Trip charge or dry run | A charge when the driver comes and cannot deliver or pick up, because the spot is blocked or the box is not ready | What counts as a dry run, and what does it cost? |
| Fuel surcharge | A charge that follows the cost of diesel, either flat or a percent | Is it fixed or does it change, and what price does it follow? |
| Environmental or regulatory fee | A line that covers compliance and disposal costs, flat or a percent | Is it in the base price? What does it cover? |
| Permit and street placement | Cost and paperwork when the box sits on a public street | Who pulls the permit and who pays for it? |
| Overfill or contamination | A charge when the box is over the fill line or holds prohibited material | What is prohibited, and what does it cost? |
| Relocation or extra swap | A charge to move a box or swap it before the planned pickup | What is the charge and the lead time? |
| Cancellation or reschedule | A fee for changing the date after booking | How much notice avoids the fee? |

Fuel
A fuel surcharge is an extra fee that follows the cost of diesel. EIA publishes a weekly retail on-highway diesel price that shippers and truckers often use in their formulas, but it does not calculate or regulate surcharges, and each company sets its own method.1 So ask two things: is the charge flat or does it change, and if it changes, what published price does it follow. A flat line is easy to compare. A moving line is only fair if the method is written down.
Comparing quotes
The cheapest base price is not always the cheapest job. Price each quote twice with the checklist.
Add up the base price, delivery, the fuel line and the fees that always apply. This is the number most quotes lead with.
Add two extra days and one ton over the allowance, using the rates each provider gave you. This is the number that decides most jobs.
Add the permit, the cost of a blocked trip and what you would pay to cancel or move the date. If a provider will not answer, count that as a risk.
Ask for the total with every fee listed on one page, and keep it with your booking confirmation.
The checklist
Two letter size pages. The PDF has fields you can type into, and the Word version opens in any editor. Fill in one column per quote.

Common questions
The base rental, included weight and overage, rental days and extensions, trip or dry run charges, fuel, an environmental or regulatory fee, a permit if the box goes on a street, and charges for overfill, relocation and cancellation. Not every provider uses every one.
A fee when the driver arrives to deliver or pick up and cannot, usually because the spot is blocked, the box is not accessible or the load is not ready. Ask what counts and what it costs.
Usually as a charge per ton for the weight over the included allowance, measured by a scale ticket from the disposal facility. Ask whether the allowance is per haul and whether the weight comes from a ticket.
They often include different things: weight allowance, rental days, delivery, fuel and fees. Put each quote on the checklist and compare the same two scenarios.
It depends on the provider and the city. Ask who applies for it and whether the cost is in the quote. Our dumpster permits guide covers the usual cases.
Yes. Call sales at (888) 588-2607 with the job address, size and dates and we will list every line before you book.
Local providers do the work; we hold the contract, own the problems, and send one bill. If a pickup gets missed, we contact the hauler the same business day.
